2012 Olympic stadium: 'work is on track'

2012 Olympic stadium: work is ‘on track’

One year ago, they began to built the Olympic stadium. Today, it is still on course to be finished on time and progress has been made. That is one thing you notice if you look at the pictures The Olympic Delivery Authority has released. The 80.000 capacity stadium has already got the majority of the steel “rakers” and half of the 12.000 concrete terracing units in place. Internal areas for the athletes to warm up are also starting to be fitted out. The stadium, which will cost around £ 547 million, will be reduced to a 25.000 seat stadium ones the games are over.

Does London need a new stadium? No, I do not think so. Does London have the money to built a new stadium? I certainly do not think so. Then, why are they building this £ 547 million costing concrete building? I do not have the answer to that question. I admit that I would find it flattering if the Olympic Games would be held in The Netherlands but I think it is ridiculous to spent such an extremely high amount of money on something that will only be used a couple of times.

  1. I fully agree with you! The newspapers all over the world have been filled with news about the economy and how is collapsed. There is no word mentioned as much as 'recession' in the past few months. So what do we do? Spend 547 million pounds on a stadium that will be used for a few weeks and then be reduced to a smaller and probably cheaper stadium. I think it is ridiculous, every four years a country spends a huge amount of money to build a stadium or more. In China they even build a small village for the athletes coming there. I think it is absolutely unnecessary and wasted money. (I do love sports so that is not what this is about haha)

  3. I agree! What a stupid thing to build a complete new stadium! As we can read, it will cost some million pounds while the whole country is in a economic crisis. Of course, if it would be held in the Netherlands, I would also be flattered and would understand that they have to build a new stadium but I do think it might be possible to adapt an old one for the Olympics. It is also rather dumb to build it so big and then after they Olympics to spent again some money in reducing it. I am very sorry to say that I think it is a complete waste of money!
